Chris and I cordially invite all District 6440 Rotarians and their guests to join us this coming June in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for the 2015 Rotary International Convention.  We’re looking forward to sharing several days of Brazilian festivities and Latin American spirit while mingling with Rotarians of all ages from around the world.
 
Your Brazilian adventure will include informative plenary sessions with inspirational speakers and enjoyable Brazilian entertainment, lively interactive workshop sessions and the House of Friendship, where you’ll connect with old Rotary connections and make new friends.  Opportunities abound to check out Rotary Action Groups and Fellowship, service projects from all over the world and food, drink and shopping to satisfy your appetites.

 
A limited block of hotel rooms has been reserved for District 6440 Rotarians at the Clarion Faria Lima hotel.  This is a 3.5 star hotel, which provides free breakfast and free Wi-Fi, and has the other facilities appropriate to a 3.5 star hotel.  It is in the Itaim area, which is relatively safe (by Sao Paulo standards) and is close to dining and shopping.  It has been inspected by a former Rotary exchange student who lives in Sao Paulo.  It is seven miles from the convention center (none of the good hotel choices are close to the convention).  RI has informed us that all hotels listed on the RI website will have Rotary bus service to the convention.
 
The cost for double occupancy in a “club concierge” room will be about US$ 275 per night, which is slightly more expensive than the average cost (US$ 200) of hotels offered on the RI website.  You can find additional information on the hotel from RI’s website.
 
The block booking was made through onPeak, RI’s official housing provider, and the District’s reservation process follows onPeak’s requirements.  To reserve your room, please use the online District 6440 Reservation Form.  An initial $275 deposit is due upon reservation, and a further payment is due before November 20th, with payments being made by your credit card to the District 6440 PayPal account.  The online Reservation Form describes the reservation process in detail.
 
The number of reserved rooms is limited, so it is important to reserve early.

Registration and information about the Convention is located on the Rotary International website, My Rotary.  You can also register there for home host hospitality and other events in Sao Paulo during the convention.  
 
District 6440 intends to hold a party at the Clarion Faria Lima hotel on the evening of Sunday, June 7th.  We’ll send you more information when it is available.
 
A note about Sao Paulo’s Gay Pride Parade: this is a huge event, and estimates of the number of participants vary between one and four million.  It is likely to be held on Sunday, June 7th, and will start in Avenidad Paulista and end in the city center.  We should expect transportation difficulties on that day, so please bear that in mind when planning your visit to the convention and the District’s party.  The Clarion Faria Lima hotel is about two miles from the path of the parade.
