It has been an honor to serve you, my fellow Rotarians in District 6440, as your Governor. This past year has been an experience-of-a-lifetime and I would not trade it for anything in the world. I have shared, debated and learned much about Rotary and what it means to be a Rotarian. Yes, this experience has changed my life and has made me a better person and a better Rotarian.

I am most thankful to the 72 Rotary Club presidents in our district for leading the world's No.1 service club. Many thanks to my club, my advisors, committees, assistant governors, leadership team, and the PDGs. My gratitude also goes to RI President John Kenny for his leadership and inspiration and to the RI staff.

Most importantly, THANK YOU to all District 6440 Rotarians for your continuous support, enthusiasm, and commitment. You have demonstrated "Service Above Self" to the utmost.

At the district assembly in April 2009, I mentioned the three traits of a good Rotary leader:

1. Knowledge of Rotary.
2. Reaching out to serve others.
3. Delivering results.

You have grown in your Rotary knowledge. Now let's share it. LET'S TALK ROTARY. You have reached out to serve others by sponsoring 125 Shelter Boxes for Haiti, 20 matching grants for worldwide humanitarian projects, 48 District Simplified Grants for local community projects, and many other worthy projects.

I am confident you will deliver results for membership retention and membership growth and will not only meet but will exceed our goals for The Rotary Foundation. Congratulations to the 45 clubs that have qualified for the Presidential Citation Award. I look forward to presenting this award personally to every club. I am proud of you and your good work. Keep it up! I will continue to support all clubs and assist you in whatever way I can.

Although the Rotary year and my term as your Governor concludes on June 30, 2010, it is also the start of a new Rotary year on July 1, 2010. I urge all District 6440 Rotarians to support our incoming District Governor Bruce Baumberger as we work together to Build Communities and Bridge Continents, because The Future of Rotary Is In Our Hands.

My wife, Pam, and I are very grateful and we thank you for the opportunity to serve you.

Bill Ferreira
Governor, District 6440
