Our district’s HealthRays project continues to gain support and attention in the Rotary world, with more than half a million dollars in funds pledged to date to bring digital x-ray technology to Guatemala!

District 6440 Rotarians are working with other Rotarians around the U.S. and the world, health care agencies and the Guatemalan government to raise money for, and install, 29 digital x-ray machines in underserved areas of Guatemala -- where they can be used to improve the health of populations in need.

So far, we have installed 3 units, and funding has been secured and installation planning is underway for 5 additional units. Each unit costs approximately $75,000.

In District 6440, 38 clubs have signed on to support HealthRays as of the fall of 2015, and our goal is to achieve 100% participation.  We have also received significant funding assistance from 14 other Rotary districts, from as far away as Taiwan. Each club’s donation, no matter what size, is important to our long-range goals.

Our project has the potential to significantly impact health care in Guatemala: Each of our digital x-ray systems will serve a population of between 50,000 and 100,000 people.  When all 29 units have been installed, millions of people in Guatemala will have local access to diagnostic digital x-ray services for the first time.
