Dear Rotary Friends,

I am honored to have been asked by District Governor Rick Reigner to serve as the Rotary International Convention Coordinator for District 6440.

A special thank you to Rick Rosenfeld, who has done an outstanding job in this role over the past several years. He has certainly left me with some big shoes to fill! I greatly appreciate Rick sharing his knowledge and assisting me as we prepare for the 2027 Rotary International Convention in Barcelona.

I’m excited to take on this role and look forward to helping our fellow Rotarians make their plans for Barcelona!

Registration for the 2027 Rotary International Convention in Barcelona

is expected to open Thursday, September 17

Start by visiting the Rotary International Convention website If you haven’t logged into My Rotary recently, it’s a good idea to check your login information now or reset your password if needed.

Once registration is live, you will likely be directed to your “My Rotary” account:  to complete the process.

Registration Has Two Main Steps

1. Register for the Convention

You will complete your convention registration and pay the applicable registration fee.

2. Reserve Your Hotel

During the registration process, you will also have the opportunity to select and reserve a hotel from the official Rotary convention hotel options.

Hotel Reservations

The hotel portion has a few more details to consider, including hotel location, pricing, and availability.

Rotary International is also handling convention housing differently this year. Because of these changes, Districts 6440 and 6450 will not be arranging group hotel accommodations.  Instead, each attendee should select and reserve their own hotel through the convention registration process.  This is why it will be helpful to have an idea of which area of Barcelona you would prefer to stay in before registration opens.

Where Should You Stay in Barcelona?

The 2027 Rotary International Convention will be held at Fira Barcelona Gran Via Convention Center.

There are three main areas we recommend considering for Rotarians from Districts 6440 and 6450. Each offers a different balance between being close to the convention and being close to Barcelona’s attractions.

1. Fira Barcelona Gran Via – Closest to the Convention

This is the most convenient choice if your priority is being close to the convention. Many hotels are within walking distance of the convention center. The trade-off is that you will be farther from Barcelona’s main sightseeing, dining, and cultural areas and will need to use public transportation to reach the city center.

2. Plaça d’Espanya – A Great Middle Ground

This area offers a nice balance between the convention and the heart of Barcelona.  It is approximately a 6-minute train ride to the convention center and about 15 minutes by subway to the cultural and tourist areas of the city.  For those who want convenient access to both the convention and Barcelona, this may be an excellent option.

3. Barcelona City Center – Best for Sightseeing & Atmosphere

If experiencing Barcelona is a priority, you may prefer staying in the lively cultural and tourist center of the city. This large area offers many hotels, restaurants, shops, and attractions.  You’ll have a longer commute to the convention each day, but you’ll be right in the middle of everything Barcelona has to offer.

Which area is right for you?  It really comes down to what is most important to you: a shorter trip to the convention, easy access to sightseeing, or a balance of both.

I am leaning toward Plaça d’Espanya because it provides convenient access to both the convention center and the cultural heart of Barcelona.  Once the Rotary hotel options become available, we can review the choices and determine which location works best for you.

How Do I Choose a Hotel?

Don’t worry about finding the “perfect” hotel right away. Once registration opens, choose a hotel that fits your preferred location and budget.  Rick Rosenfeld has created a helpful grid of hotels in each of the three recommended areas, covering five major hotel chains.

If you are a loyalty member with one of these hotel chains, you may also want to check your member pricing directly. Just be sure to select a rate that allows you to change or cancel without restrictions or penalties.  Hotel reservations through Rotary are typically flexible, so you may have an opportunity to make changes later.

I’m Here to Help!  I will be offering pre- and post-convention travel options and am also happy to assist with flights or any other travel plans you may have for Barcelona and beyond.

I’ll be at the Conference October 2–3 with a table, so please stop by! I’ll be happy to answer questions and talk about your Barcelona travel plans.

My goal is to make planning for the Barcelona Convention as easy and enjoyable as possible for everyone who would like to attend.

I look forward to helping you get to Barcelona!
